Special Note for Those Who Signed Up Using a Social Media Account – Facebook, Twitter, Google, Linked In, YouTube, Word Press
If you signed up and log-on with a Social Media account like Facebook, DO NOT CHANGE your email account or password here! Make your change via your Social Media account and it will automatically adjust this account when you next log-on. You may certainly add information to your bio on your account, but if you make a change here, you will no longer have the ability to click the little social media icon and automatically log-in. We have no way to identify how you log in. That information is private. If you have to create a new user account, it will no longer be connected to your shelter listing. So please be fore-warned. If things get messed up, Contact Us and we will do our best to help get things straightened out. It will just take some time.
Logging Into the Ferret Shelters Directory To Maintain, Edit, Change Your Listing, Profile or to Add or Modify Events – the Log In Screen
To work in the Ferret Shelters Directory, first you have to log-in as a User. You do that through the Manage Your Shelter Listing link in footer of just about any page on this site and enter your log in credtials – user name/password or, if you use a Social Media account, click the appropriate icon and you are on your way in.
Logging Into the Ferret Shelters Directory To Maintain, Edit, Change Your Listing, Profile or to Add or Modify Events – the Dashboard
You arrive at the WordPress Dashboard which will look similar to the following screen image. Navigation on the site is easiest through the left column. Your user name is always shown up in the upper right corner – it says “Howdy, “yourusername” on each page (shown under the white blob between Howdy and the silhouette of a person as shown in the image below).
Navigate the site via the left menu. Posts, Comments and Tools are inactive.
Log-out by mousing over your “username” in the upper right corner to the right of Howdy, and clicking Log Out.
Updating or Changing Your Password, Email Address
There are two ways to access your profile. The easiest is to click on Profile on the black navigation bar on the left. The second way to access your Profile is to mouseover the little person in the upper right corner of your screen next to “Howdy, “yourusername” and clicking on Edit My Profile. Either way gets you to the same page.
Here are the details of the steps to follow.
Log into log into the Ferret Shelters Directory. You can use the Manage Your Shelter Listing link in footer of any page.
1 – Profile Tab – Clicking on Profile in the left navigation column accesses your profile (or mouseover the person silhouette in upper right corner and click Edit my Profie). The User name is blocked out in this example.
2 – This area is prefilled with the user name you selected when you signed up. The system automatcally assigns a User name to Social Media registrations.
3 – Note – User names cannot be changed. If you need to change, you must create a new account. Then Contact Us providing both the old User name and new User names along with the name of the shelter/s you wish to have reassigned your new account. There can only be 1 User account per shelter.
4 – This is where you can change your email address. REMINDER: If you signed up and log-on using a Social Media account like Facebook, DO NOT CHANGE your email account here! Make your change via your Social Media account and it will automatically adjust this account when you next log-on.
5 – This area always appears to be blank – it really isn’t – it’s just secret! It is where you will insert your new password – twice in both places. The password Strength Indicator underneath changes color to help you decide if the password you selected is adequate.
6 – IMPORTANT – None of your changes will take effect unless you click the Big Blue UPDATE PROFILE Button!
7 – Log-out by mousing over your “username” in the upper right corner to the right of Howdy, and clicking Log Out..
Power Users: Should you want to change the colors of your interface, you certainly are free to do so. None of the other information within this area, however, is currently utilized. You may also add biographical information to your profile, however, at the moment that information is not being used.
NOTE: No one, not even the site administrator has access to your password. If you loose it, the system will automatically issue you a link to your registered email address through the “Lost your password?” link on the Manage Your Shelter Listing log-on screen. If you forgot your registered email address you can Contact Us for help. Please understand in that event it may take 24 to 72 to provide support. We can try to help and assign you a temporary password. But you will then have to log-on and follow these steps to reset to whatever you want as your new, private, and permanent password.
Remember the Big Blue Buttons! Nothing happens until you click a Big Blue Button. Whether you are trying to Log In, Submit A Listing, Update a Listing, Submit an Event Listing, Update your Profite (for a Password Change or Email Address), or any change, you must click a button for it to “take.” If you leave a page without doing so, your work will disappear, never to be accessed again. So look for them. They may be at the bottom of the page. Or you may have to scroll back to the top and to the right side of the Publish column. We didn’t design it – that’s just the way it works.

Some screens will change over time from the ones shown below. This site is evolving. We are adding and modifying as shelter, SOS, F.E.R.R.E.T. needs and technology changes. When there are significant changes, we will try to update the images and instructions. Please pardon any unintended “blips.”
