New York Ferret's Rights Advocacy / Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Ferrets is, a 501(C)(4) non-profit organization that has no paid employees. Everyone volunteers their time.We are the first and only species specific SPC in the nation let alone the world.
We are an educational organization that does adoptions, rescue work and placement of ferrets. We operate strictly as an adoption agency. When someone is giving up a ferret for whatever reason the ferret becomes listed with us and remains with their current home until we are able to place the little one in a new home. Those seeking to adopt must go through our adoption process to see if you would be a suitable home.
We accept calls seven days a week from 10 am to 9 pm except during Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur.
We are also focused on getting legislation passed that will protect ferrets and their humans. Keep in mind humane law is an absolute joke in this country. By organizations dealing with the species they know rather than government, animals will once and for all be respected as they should be. We intend to be the first to accomplish this by being recognized as a quasi-governmental agency and establishing other organizations that deal only with ferrets as SPCF's that will be held answerable to the central organization. This would mean there would be one standardized method. This will also bring about drastic changes to humane law where the needs for each species is respected.
