Scales and Tails started when a ferret group called Metropolitan Ferret started to get calls to take in ferrets from a local shelter. After some time the need for an actual ferret shelter grew. It started with 1 ferret owner, 2 ferret and iguana owners who already provided education on reptile care collaborated to start Scales and Tails: A ferret and reptile rescue. Over time the volunteers and foster homes for the reptiles became unavailable. However, the ferret arm of the rescue changed hands and grew stronger due to the hard work and dedication of Dave Lohrey.
